JD.com has lent its advanced augmented reality (AR) technology to help teach children about “stranger danger”.
The Chinese retail and tech giant has developed a new AR children’s story book based the German book “Ich geh doch nicht mit Jedem mit!” (“I’m not going with everyone!”) by Dagmar Geisler, which is reportedly popular among Chinese parents.
Once the book is purchased, users can use the JD.com app to bring the pages to life in AR, creating an enhanced and interactive experience which encourages learning.
This is the latest showcase of JD.com’s advancing AR capabilities, already offering an AR fitting room and styling station to its 300 million customer base.
According to JD.com, 70 per cent of those who purchased colour lenses on its platform last year first used its AR styling platform to virtually try them on before purchasing.
“We are proud to use our technology to tackle this important issue,” JD.com’s head of AR and VR Tony Li said.
“JD.com has already transformed the way consumers shop in China through our state-of-the-art technologies. We’re now helping to transform the way children learn by developing AR-powered educational tools.
“JD looks forward to continuing to work alongside authors and publishers to ensure the brightest and safest tomorrow for our kids and to shape the future of learning. We will also continue to find innovative ways to bring the AR technologies we develop in our labs to market in the service of our customers and partners.”
