Ikea to launch affordable Sonos-powered connected speaker
Ikea is promising to “democratise” sound while announcing it will release its budget Sonos-powered connected speaker next month.
Following the unveiling of the prototype, Ikea said it was due to showcase its new speaker on April 9 at an event in Milan, and are expected to go on sale in August.
In its press release teasing its new technology, Ikea said it had “democratised light in the home for years”, and was now hoping to “make high-quality sound available for everyone”.
“Together with Sonos we wanted to combine our home furnishing knowledge with their expertise in creating great sound experiences for every room of the home, and in Milan we want you to experience the real difference that sound and light makes in your life” Ikea’s Björn Block said.
“For Ikea, the smart home is not about gadgets, it’s about making life at home better with solutions that create a better atmosphere, make you live a more convenient life and make you feel safe.
“The collaboration with Sonos is a great example of this, offering affordable high-quality sound in combination with a great design piece that we hope will find its way into the many people’s homes.”
The “book-shelf” speaker will reportedly offer customer multi-functional home usage at an affordable price, and will be followed by connected blinds that will be available in later this spring.
