Curve unveils world’s first AR payment app

Fintech startup Curve has announced the world’s first augmented reality (AR) payment solution, allowing customers to pay using a virtual card.

Though details of what it’s calling Project X are fairly thin, it is understood that users with the app will use their smartphone to wirelessly pay for items using a virtually imposed credit card.

In its promotional video, the user can be seen pointing its camera at a card reader, then moving dragging a virtual credit card over it with their finger, completing the payment.

According to the company this serves as a proof of concept and the technology is not due to be rolled out “just yet”.

Curve’s current app allows users to digitally add all their separate cards into one “mastercard”, and has 100,000 active users.
