Sainsbury’s launches AR game for Easter

Sainsbury’s has launched its own AR game to celebrate Easter in which customers must search the supermarket for different characters.

The game, much like the 2016 hit Pokemon Go, is called April’s Easter Adventure and requires shoppers to track down April the Easter bunny, and her friends including a lamb, chick, deer, duck and a fox.

Players can use their smartphones to scan a picture of April at the front of Sainsbury’s stores to begin the game once they have downloaded the app.

It will then offer five clues which will point out where each character is hiding, once a character’s outline is found the users smartphone will automatically scan it and unlock the character.

Ten second videos of the characters can then be taken, which can be animated with buttons within the app.

Each character also comes with a mini-game, in which the player is required to collect five items for the character within one minute.

“We’re always on the lookout for new and exciting ways to innovate and reward our customers,” a Sainsbury’s spokesperson said.

“This interactive app is a first for Sainsbury’s and is the perfect way to keep the kids entertained during the Easter break whilst parents tick off their weekly shop.

“We’re excited to see families get involved as they search the stores looking for April and her friends this Easter.”

The app is available to download on iOS and Android now.
