Intu launches instore cashback app Intu Pocket

Shopping centre giant Intu has begun testing a new instore cashback app which will reward customers for shopping in its centres.

The “Intu Pocket” app offers customers two to 10 per cent cashback on anything purchased from participating retailers and restaurants across 14 of its UK destinations.

Its pilot scheme, which is now currently available to download in beta, will also give shoppers bonus offers which could offer up to 90 per cent off selected items, aimed at driving traffic to specific areas at specific times.

Customers can link their cards to the Pocket app, which will track their transactions and allow customers to use their acquired cashback in store, or transfer it to their bank account once £5 has been earned.

Intu will reportedly also collect anonymised data from the app, offering retailers access to customer insights.

“Online shopping data is used to build loyalty and drive sales, and we wanted to provide some of the same benefits to Intu’s customers and retailers,” Intu’s commercial and digital director Trevor Pereira said.

“Intu Pocket enables us to reward shoppers for spending their money at an Intu centre and helps to increase footfall and sales to our retailers’ stores.

“Our scale as the owner of many of the country’s most popular shopping destinations, with 400 million customer visits a year, makes us well placed to create unique customer experiences and ensure the retailers in our centres continue to thrive.”
