Walmart launches range of interactive AR Toy Story 4 products

Walmart has rolled out exclusive new Toy Story 4 merchandise which allows characters to be brought to life via an augmented reality (AR) app.

Children’s party products created by Unique Industries, sold exclusively by the US retail giant, can be brought to life on any smartphone using the AR entertainment app Mardles.

By pointing a smartphone camera at the party plates, cups or hats included in the range, 3D animated versions of the Toy Story characters will appear on screen for users to interact with.

The Mardles app, developed by AliveLab, doesn’t require a Wifi or data connection to work and is compatible with over 60 different stickers sold at separate retailers.

It also stressed that it doesn’t collect or store data about children.

Toy Story 4 is due to generate $85 million in consumer product revenues for Disney and remains one of its most popular franchises, setting a worldwide box-office record for an animated film.
