Ikea has launched a new ecommerce mobile app as it aims to be “ready at an accelerated pace for a new shopping era, in which improved digital shopping options, more speed and convenience play a crucial role.”
The Swedish furniture giant launched the new app in the Netherlands and France today on Android and iOS, and shoppers using the old app will now be prompted to update.
Its latest app comes with an improved search function which will offer product recommendations and reviews, alongside the ability to save shopping lists and place order without logging in.
Ikea added that it plans to roll out the new app to more markets later, but did not specify when.
“Our new app is a great example of how we are making Ikea smarter and more accessible,” Ikea Netherland’s commercial manager Shirley Jones said.
“We are firmly committed to an improved digital shopping experience, both online and in our existing stores. We prefer to integrate the two in order to make it easier for customers to shop with us where and how they want it.
“We know that over 80% of our shop visitors orientate themselves in advance on our product and service offering and we also notice that the digital Ikea catalogue is being consulted more and more, which offers us great opportunities, because of course we can add new products and collections much faster digitally via the app and Ikea.nl then in a printed catalog that appears only once a year.”
