Shopify has introduced a chat function allowing retailers using its platform to speak with customers directly.
Shopify Chat can now be integrated into any of the 800,000 retailers’ ecommerce sites built on Shopify’s platform.
By enabling Shopify Chat inside the retailers can customise a chat button which will appear on every page of their online store.
This will allow customers to ask product questions, request order updates and receive discount codes in real-time.
Fifty per cent of online shoppers reportedly prefer to contact businesses through direct chat, and those that do are three times more likely to make a purchase, according to Shopify’s research.
“We know that customers today engage with brands on many different channels, and our goal is to make these conversations convenient and seamless,” Shopify said in a corporate blog post.
“To make this experience even better, we’re also investing in dynamic conversations so that the chat platform that most resonates with a customer surfaces first.”
