Asics has apologised after pornography was played on giant TV screens facing a busy high for nine-hours at its flagship store in Auckland.

Pornography was streamed onto the fashion retailers promotional outdoor display screens on Saturday night and wasn’t stopped until staff opened the store the following Sunday morning.

According to the store manager of Asics’ Auckland Queen Street location, situated on New Zealand’s busiest shopping street, he is “100 per cent” sure his staff were not responsible.

Asics said in a Facebook post that “an unknown person gained access to the screens above our central Auckland store and some objectionable content was displayed on the screens.

“We are working with our software and online security suppliers to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

“We would like to apologise to anyone who may have seen this.”

The New Zealand Herald reported that although many passers by including a mother with her seven-year-old found the content “totally inappropriate and offensive”, others just “stopped and watched”.
