Royal Mail adds AR parcel sizer and Alexa integration to app

Royal Mail has introduced an augmented reality (AR) parcel sizer to its app alongside Alexa compatibility.

The Royal Mail app, which has been downloaded over half a million times after it launched earlier this year, now includes a new AR function which will accurately measure the size of the item they wish to post.

The AI powered parcel sizer will utilise a user’s smartphone to determine the format size and price of their item, then allow them to purchase postage directly from the app.

Furthermore, customers can now track their parcels via Alexa by setting up a codename for their parcel, then asking the smart assistant to “ask Royal Mail to track my item”.

Once this is confirmed, Alexa will be able to give live updates as to the location of the item.

“The updated Royal Mail App is helping users to manage their deliveries more efficiently and is rapidly growing with the number of downloads increasing every month,” a spokesperson said.

Royal Mail is the first in the industry in the UK to launch an augmented reality feature in its App, making it simpler than ever to send a parcel. The new features of the Royal Mail App are part of our commitment to investing in technology that improves the customer experience for both senders and recipients.”
