Aldi has launched an online video wine training course to help shoppers “discover the best food pairings and impress every guest”.
The “Aldiploma” will be free of charge and consist of six individual modules covering everything from wine jargon, to grape varieties and how to pair wines with food.
It has been designed with Aldi’s “resident wine expert and Mistress of Wine” Sam Capcorn, and three cases of wine each consisting of six bottles unique to Aldi are being sold to accompany the online course.

According to a survey of 2000 drinkers cited by Aldi, 63 per cent of people are “baffled” by supermarket wine aisles, while a further 92 per cent said they had lied about their wine knowledge to impress others.
Capcorn, Aldi’s new wine expert who is teaching the course, one of just 384 people in the world who are qualified as a Master of Wine.
“Sam is here to educate our Aldi customers on what makes a perfect bottle of wine and fizz, using her inside hints and tips to make the whole process a little less daunting along the way,” Aldi said.

Such a good idea, none of the big four focus on wine like this anymore. It is just another aisle in the store for them, this for Aldi is a great way of boosting repeat sales and increasing like for like sales growth.
