Zalando to use electric vehicles to carry out “several hundred” deliveries a day

Zalando has begun using electric vehicles (EV) to carry out several hundred deliveries a day as part of its initiative to develop “sustainable solutions for logistics”.

The online retail giant is piloting the use of EVs to carry out same-day deliveries in Hamburg, a city with over 600 charging locations.

Its three-month trial will utilise 24 EVs from a range of manufacturers including Mercedes, Nissan and Renault alongside micro delivery vehicles from ARI Motors.

Zalando Plus loyalty subscribers who opt for faster delivery will be the first to have their items delivered by EV the same or next day.

“Zalando is working on developing sustainable solutions for logistics,” director of Zalando Premium Logistics Christian Scheffler said.

“The new pilot in Hamburg is another important step along this path and we are delighted to be able to offer customers in Hamburg climate-friendly services.

“With over 600 charging stations in the city area, the Hanseatic city is an ideal place to test climate-friendly logistics concepts with our logistics partners.”
