L’Oreal has launched a new AI-powered smart skincare system which analyses user’s skin and environment to create unique personalised skincare products.
Perso, revealed at CES 2020 technology convention, has been developed by L’Oreal’s technology incubator, and uses a four-step process and “AI to optimize the formulas”.
Using the Perso app customers can scan their face and use ModiFace’s technology, which L’Oreal purchased in 2018, to perform a personal skin analysis.
Next Perso will assess local environmental conditions like humidity, UV levels, humidity and wind which will affect the user’s skin.
Users can then input their personal skincare concerns and preferences, before the device produces a single dose of personalised formula, which could be serum, under eye cream or moisturiser.
At a later date L’Oreal says Perso will also be able to create lipstick and foundation, inform users which formulas are working best for them and even adjust for the time of day.
Perso is set to launch in partnership with one of its leading skincare brands in 2021.
“Building on our deep scientific heritage and leadership in innovation, L’Oréal is once again leveraging advanced technology to create smart beauty products and services that answer the needs of our consumers and offer them near-limitless personalisation and precision,” L’Oréal’s deputy chief executive Nicolas Hieronimus said.
“We are committed to making L’Oréal the leader in beauty tech – and Perso is the next step in that exciting journey.”
