Tesco has enlisted the help of Ocado’s tech partner Swisslog to roll out automated robots at its logistics centres across the UK.
Swisslog will provide the UK’s largest grocer with an automated pallet retrieval and storage system, using robots riding on conveyors belts to pick up and drop off pallets of good, according to The Grocer.
This system, dubbed “PowerStore” is already being used by Pepsi in the US and Coca-Cola in Australia.

Online grocer and logistics technology innovator Ocado also uses Swisslog’s “AutoStore” system in a number of its high-tech fulfilment centres in Erith and South East London.
“For Tesco, the system is significantly improving throughput capacity, and compared to their traditional racking, is increasing storage density by up to 60 per cent,” Swisslog’s UK head of sales Shane Faulkner said.
“It is designed to utilise virtually every square cube of space. The solution removes the dependence on replenishment to a pick face, as processes are now automatic.”
