$400m in Amazon stock offloaded by MacKenzie Bezos
Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife MacKenzie has offloaded around $400 million in Amazon shares.
The Amazon chief executive handed a four per cent stake of the company to his ex-wife in the world’s most expensive divorce last year, making Bezos the richest woman on earth with estimated wealth of $37 billion.
She has now cashed in around 200,000 shares, worth around $400 million at the current share price, reducing her shares in the company to around 19.5 million, according the CNBC.
The news came via an end-of-year filing made with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Friday, which stated that the Amazon chief executive still retains sole voting authority over his ex-wife’s shares.
It is not yet known what the cash will be used for, but is expected the known philanthropist could donate a significant portion to charity.
This comes after Bezos signed the Giving Pledge last May, which sees her pledge to donate half of her considerable wealth to charitable causes.
Her husband has not signed the Giving Pledge, which was set up by fellow billionaires Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and his wife Melinda.
