Retail robotics giant Bossa Nova has appointed a new chief executive tasked with leading the company through “its next phase of global growth and market leadership”.

Bossa Nova, a “bleeding edge” retail technology company which has seen thousands of its automated instore robots adopted by Walmart, will welcome HP’s former supply chain officer Stuart Pann as its new leader with immediate effect.

Pann is replacing Bruce McWilliams, who will remain in the company acting as chief operating officer.

“I am truly honoured to lead an extraordinary company that’s at the forefront of streamlining inventory management for retailers worldwide through bleeding-edge artificial intelligence,” Pann said of his appointment.

“Working alongside an exceptional team that’s developing ground-breaking solutions for retailers to improve retail operations is most rewarding. I am excited to lead Bossa Nova on its next phase of global growth and market leadership, including integrating our technology into retail supply chains across Europe.”

In January Walmart, the US’ biggest retailer, announced that it would be dramatically ramping up the number of autonomous robots in its stores as it expands its partnership with Bossa Nova Robotics.

Bossa Nova’s shelf-scanning robots stand six feet tall and automatically navigate stores scanning prices, checking inventory and finding misplaced items or incorrect prices.

In 2017 Walmart introduced 50 of these bots to its stores in a trial phase, ramping this up significantly in April last year to 350 alongside the introduction of thousands of other models.

Now the US largest retailer is adding a further 650 robots to its store estate bringing Bossa Nova’s shelf-scanning bots to 1000 stores by this summer.

McWilliams added: “Stuart brings an extensive supply chain background that will help further drive our business’ growth and scale.

“We have seen the value of our technology transforming retail operations and are well-positioned to continue building on this strong momentum.

“I am excited to welcome Stuart to the team and thrilled to have a new leader who will rapidly drive our mission of delivering actionable inventory data through artificial intelligence and automation to the world’s top retailers.”
