Shopify has launched its own consumer shopping app allowing users to browse goods from local independent businesses.
Shop is a new shopping platform from Shopify, which provides the foundation for over 1 million ecommerce websites across the world, now available to download on iOS and Android.
According to Tech Crunch Shop is essentially an updated version of Shopify’s Arrive app, which allows customers to track packages from Shopify sellers, which has reportedly been used by 16 million people to date.
The rebranded app, which is “designed to bridge the gaps in online shopping”, adds a range of new features allowing customers to locate local merchants, browse their products and see if they offer home delivery or click and collect options.
Shoppers will be able to checkout in-app using Shop Pay, then track their orders using the tried and tested Arrive technology.
Shop will also provide shoppers with customised recommendations from their favourite brands, including notifications of new releases and deals.
“Shopify has focused the last decade on solving complex problems for entrepreneurs by making commerce seamless and accessible,” Shop’s general manager Carl Rivera said.
“Now, we want to do the same for customers. We set out to solve the common pain points in the customer’s shopping journey today, while developing specific features, like local business discovery, that will be relevant today and in the future.”
