Amazon launches new AR shopping feature ‘Room Detector’

Amazon has launched a new augmented reality (AR) shopping tool, allowing shoppers to virtually place furniture in their home before committing to a purchase.

Room Detector is Amazon’s latest AR feature which is able to digitally place a number of furniture or home decor items into a user’s home at once.

Thousands of products from both Amazon and its third-party sellers can be virtually inserted into shoppers’ rooms by clicking the “View in Your Room” button on both iOS and desktop browsers.

Customers can add the items to their shopping basket directly from the Room Decorator, while a range of similar items and complementary products will be suggested.

If they’re not yet ready to commit to purchase, customers can save their selection to their Amazon account under “Your Rooms”, and can even save an image of their home to access the feature while they’re away.

“Amazon is always exploring new ways to create experiences that delight our customers. With the addition of Room Decorator tools, Amazon enhances its augmented reality feature to give customers an even more immersive shopping experience from the comfort of their own home, or on the go,” an Amazon spokesperson said.

“With access to the inspiring furniture styles available on Amazon, customers can do more than just imagine their dream rooms — they can visualize them to make more informed shopping decisions.”
