Amazon Prime Day 2020 has so far seen millions of UK customers support small independent businesses in what is set to be the “most successful Prime Day ever for small businesses”.
The first day of this year’s long delayed but highly anticipated Prime Day has been a success for small businesses, according to Amazon.
Last month it announced a campaign which offered £10 credit for any Prime members who spent £10 with select UK small businesses in the run up to October 13, which can be spent on “almost any product” during the event.
Thousands of small businesses are understood to have taken part in the promotion, seeing millions of UK customers purchase items from them in the run up to and on day one.
According to Amazon its best-selling products so far this year spread across toys, games and puzzles, skin care, make up and wine and spirits.
Family games like Monopoly, Jenga and Guess Who topped the toys category alongside kids’ technology like cameras and smart watches, while items including ‘This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray’ and ‘Vera Wang’s Princess Eau De Toilette’ perfume were top sellers in the beauty section.
For third party sellers, the home and electronics categories took the lead this year, with products including wireless earbuds, Alexa enabled LED lights and a posture corrector for home workers topping sales lists.
“This has been a challenging time for small businesses,” Amazon’s UK country manager Doug Gurr said.
“And so we are proud that Prime members have supported thousands of UK-based small businesses selling on Amazon during the lead-up to Prime Day and on day one.
“We are committed to making this the most successful Prime Day ever for small businesses and we look forward to sharing even more deals on day two of Prime Day 2020.”
