Missguided has seen a 700 per cent rise in the sale of joggers and leggings as 2020’s work from home culture makes its imprint on the fashion industry.
The online fashion giant has seen loungewear sales skyrocket throughout 2020 compared to sales data from the previous five years.
According to Missguided, sales began to spike in loungewear in June and July, following a peak in active jogger sales in May as people turned to exercise to keep them occupied during lockdown.
Loungewear, just like video games and puzzles, has been one of the surprise best sellers throughout the year.
Over Black Friday weekend Shopify, which now provides the platform for nearly 1 million retailers, said four out of its six most popular products sold were loungewear items including leggings, sweaters and dressing gowns.
According to Euromonitor International and Coresight, athleisure sales are also expected to emerge as a winner this year, growing 9.2 per cent to $105.1 billion globally.
