Amazon UK traffic grew 32% last year as ecommerce sites dominated top 100

Amazon saw its UK site traffic jump 32 per cent last year as ecommerce platforms dominated the 100 most visited websites of the year.

According to a new study from The UK Domain which looked into how internet behaviours changed last year, Amazon experienced the largest growth in traffic of any site enjoying 6.5 billion visits.

Ecommerce platforms including Ebay, Argos, Tesco, Currys and Gumtree all experienced significant growth during 2020, with ecommerce platforms representing a quarter of the top 100 most visited websites.

They also accounted for 14 per cent of the top 100 UK websites overall traffic last year, with companies including Wayfair and delivery giant MyHermes breaking into to the list for the first time.

Alongside the rise in ecommerce, 2020 also unsurprisingly saw visits to the NHS website double, while news platforms and entertainment sites enjoyed major boosts in traffic.

YouTube and Twitch are understood to have enjoyed traffic increases of around 15 per cent, while BBC News overtook Facebook in total traffic for the first time, rising 10 per cent.
