Google launches a host of new AI-powered product discovery features for retailers

Google Cloud has launched a host of new AI-powered ‘Product Discovery Solutions’ for retailers to help them provide “smarter and more personalized shopping experiences”.

The technology giant has launched three new solutions using its cutting-edge machine learning-based technologies, aiming to help retailers navigating ecommerce for the first time due to the pandemic.

Its first product, ‘Recommendations AI’, enables retailers to offer highly personalised product recommendations by piecing together the history of the customers shopping journey.

Meanwhile, its ‘Vision API Product Search’ allows retailers to offer visually or semantically similar items from their catalogue to customers searching for products using images.

Alongside these, Google’s ‘Cloud Search for Retail’ is now available for private previews, which enables retailers to power their own websites’ search bar with Google’s advanced search engine technology.

“As the shift to online continues, smarter and more personalized shopping experiences will be even more critical for retailers to rise above their competition,” Google Cloud’s vice president of retail and consumer Carrie Tharp said.

“Retailers are in dire need of agile operating models powered by cloud infrastructure and technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) to meet today’s industry demands. We’re proud to partner with retailers around the world, and bring forward our Product Discovery offerings to help them succeed.”
