Ebay launches dedicated hub for refurbished goods as demand skyrockets

Ebay has launched a new ‘Certified Refurbished Hub’ aiming to do away with the “perceived risk” of purchasing refurbished items.

It Certified Refurbished Hub, launched this week in the UK, offers high quality products from a range of trusted brands like Dyson, GoPro, and Lenovo at discounts of up to 30 per cent.

Every product sold have been refurbished, tested and approved by either the original manufacturer, or a manufacturer approved vendor.

“Our Certified Refurbished hub is designed to bring peace of mind to customers, allowing them to secure the products they love, like new for less, and at the high quality they deserve,” Ebay UK’s senior trading manager Matt Potter said.

According to Potter the new dedicated hub is largely in response to skyrocketing demand for trusted refurbished products, with searches jumping over 300 per cent between January 1 and February 20 2021 compared to the same period a year earlier.

“Demand for refurbished products has been growing for some time, but we know that the main barrier for some consumers has been the perceived risk that comes with purchasing a refurbished item,” Potter added.

“We’re really looking forward to working with our sellers and brands on this venture, allowing them to open up new revenue streams, maximise the margin on returns and create a more sustainable supply chain too.”

The new initiative will also prevent the equivalent of 438 double decker buses of products going to landfill.
