Marks & Spencer has hailed the success of its new alumni network after more than 5000 former staff signed up in just two weeks.
M&S Family, the retailer’s new social media-style app launched last month, has been so successful that the retailer is now hiring a new community manager to expand its user base.
The app allows former employees to connect with each other, share photos and memories of their time working at the retailer, keep in touch with what’s happening at M&S and apply for upcoming roles.
M&S will also launch unique alumni events where staff can see where their former colleagues, such as Ocado’s chief executive Mel Smith, are today.
Its new community manager will be responsible for creating and curating content and live events across the platform.
The M&S Family app is the retailer’s latest digital initiative, forming part of its wider digital transformation plans, implementing a range of measures designed to “put digital at the heart of its operations and create a better shopping experience”.
As part of M&S’ ongoing radical digital transformation programme the retailer announced earlier this month that it has launched 46 flagship websites in new markets.
This significant push into international online ecommerce comes after M&S saw overseas online sales jump 75 per cent during its interim results.
Seeking to capitalise on the demand for its goods overseas, M&S will now trade as a pureplay online retailer in 100 countries offering a selection of items from its clothing and home ranges.
