Amazon launch vinyl delivery subscription service

Amazon has dipped its toes into another subscription venture after launching “Vinyl of the Month Club“, where consumers are delivered handpicked “golden era” records straight to their doors.

The new service costs $25 a month and aims to cash in on the growing popularity and resurgence of record collecting.

The vinyl club is the latest in a line of subscription services which include Amazon’s majorly successful Prime, Audible and Kindle Unlimited.

The “golden era” selection will only include records from the ’60s and ’70s, featuring albums from artists such as Pink Floyd.

Amazon started selling physical music in 1998 and was one of the first products sold by ecommerce giant.

“We’ve always seen physical music and streaming to be complementary,” an Amazon spokesperson told Business Insider.

Amazon has other rivals in the vinyl delivery space, including Vinyl Me Please, after paying a monthly fee of $33 users can pick from four genres of music and see the selection beforehand.

The reviews on Amazon’s record club are mixed so far, with most the most common complaint is that users are not able to personally select records unlike some of Amazon’s rivals’ services.

However other reviews praise the schemes flexibility and affordability as the service allows returns and cancellations each month.

Vinyl sales have made a resurgence after the influx of music streaming services, with sales rising every year for the last 15 years, the biggest jump of 46 per cent occurring between 2019 and 2020.
