Etsy has overtaken Ebay to become the second most popular marketplace outside of China thanks to a surge in small business side-hustles during the pandemic.
According to new data from CenturyLinkQuote, which analysed data from SemRush and Google Trends, Etsy is now the second most searched for online marketplace behind Amazon.
Across nine US states, Etsy even topped Amazon to become the most searched for online marketplace.

Etsy, which bought fashion resale giant Depop in June, specialises on small independent sellers with a reported 97 per cent of sellers stating their run their businesses from home.
Last month, its was reported that Etsy has seen the number of active sellers on its platform almost double as over two million people looked to side hustles during the pandemic.
According to a study by Money.co.uk, the number of people using Etsy’s platform to sell their handmade products rose from 2.69 million last year to 4.63 million in 2020 as the pandemic impacted people’s day jobs.
