Amazon is gifting fully vaccinated staff free cars and $100k cash payouts

Amazon has gifted eight of its fully vaccinated warehouse workers free cars and $100,000 in cash in a bid to encourage employees to get their Covid-19 jab.

Four of the ecommerce giant’s warehouse workers and a Whole Foods employee were gifted cars worth up to $40,000 after providing proof that they were fully vaccinated.

The news follows a similar announcement last week whereby three of its warehouse workers and Whole Foods employees were given $100,000 in cash for getting their jabs.

The company announced the news on its “Amazon Vest Life” account, which provides news and content for its staff.

The company launched the sweepstake scheme, coined “Max Your Vax”, last month to reward its staff who had been double vaccinated.

Other prizes included a $12,000 vacation package as well as cash rewards reaching up to $500,000.

According to Amazon, a total of 18 prizes worth nearly $2 million will be handed out to staff this month through to October 21.

In order to participate, employees must provide proof of full vaccination through a company portal.

The company has set up more than 1,500 on-site vaccination centres for its employees and their families as it believes that it is pivotal its workers are fully protected.

While Amazon hasn’t forced its employees to get jabbed, it has strongly encouraged it through vaccination events and now the sweepstakes.

It also offered a signing-on bonus of $100 to new employees who showed proof of vaccination.

The Delta variant is proving resurgent in the US, with staff in Amazon’s warehouse and logistics departments being required to wear masks again after previously dropping the rule after a fall in cases.

Amazon is also aiming to restart its testing program in its warehouse division after previously winding the operation down, according to the Seattle Times.
