Amazon expands ‘Climate Friendly Pledge’ programme to 200,000 products

Amazon’s ‘Climate Pledge Friendly’ badge is being significantly expanded to over 200,000 products globally as the programme celebrates its one-year anniversairy.

Amazon launched its a new Climate Pledge Friendly label in September last year across more than 25,000 products initially, before bringing the scheme to the Europe and the UK a month later.

The initiative is designed to encourage sellers to create sustainable products and provide customers with a simple way “to shop more sustainably”.

The retail giant is now introducing five new certifications to the programme in Europe, expanding the number of products available to 200,000 globally and 100,000 across the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.

These new badges include Associazione Italiana Agricultura Biologica (AIAB), EU Organic, Fair For Life, Natrue, and Soil Association Certification, bringing the programme’s number of certifications in Europe to 31.

It is also offering between 15 and 40 per cent off Climate Friendly Pledge products until October 17.

“We’re delighted to be expanding our Climate Pledge Friendly programme to more than 100,000 products in Europe with these new third-party certifications,” Amazon’s director of sustainability in Europe Zak Watts said.

“Climate Pledge Friendly has been designed as a simple way for our customers to shop more sustainably, and forms an important part of our commitment to building a sustainable business for our employees, customers, and communities.

“These new certifications provide yet more choice for our customers, and we’re excited to have such a diverse group of reputable sustainability certifications on-board.”
