Asos has opened a new £90 million fulfilment centre in Litchfield to serve customers in the UK and more than 150 countries globally.
The 437,000 sq. ft facility managed by GXO has recruited more than 700 people so far and plans to recruit 2,000 more over the next three years.
The online retailer is expecting to ship over 30 million units during the site’s first year and up to 4.5 million units per week once it is fully operational.
Asos said the centre will help in meeting increasing customer demand and support the company’s target of achieving £7 billion of annual revenue within the next three to four years.
The company operates three other fulfilment centres in Atlanta, Barnsley, and Berlin.
“We’re thrilled to be laying down the foundations for our future growth in Lichfield,” Asos chief executive Nick Beighton said.
“This significant investment in infrastructure and large-scale job creation is a reflection of the confidence Asos has in its future and the quality of the skills and talent available in this well-placed location.
“When fully up and running in 2023, the site will support our ever-increasing customer demand and enable us to develop our offerings and delivery capabilities even further.”
Business Secretary Alok Sharma added: “Asos is a great British success story at the heart of our vibrant fashion industry, and I welcome their clear vote of confidence in our skilled workforce.
“This job-creating investment in Lichfield is exactly the type of long-term commitment we need from businesses as we build back better from the pandemic.”
