Deliveroo has announced a new partnership with French frozen food specialists Picard Groupe SAS to offer its customers express deliveries nationwide.
The deal marks the third of such that the food delivery specialist has made with a major food provider in the country.
Deliveroo has made steps to expand its business in recent months with partnerships with major UK supermarkets including Sainsbury’s.
Grocery sales now make up seven per cent of transactions on the Deliveroo app, the company said on Monday.
The company is also planning to launch its own rapid delivery service, dubbed “Hop”, to rival market leaders Weezy, Getir and Gorillas.
The Hop model will rely on a network of dark stores to deliver to customers in Italy, France and Hong Kong, Bloomberg reported.
Deliveroo has also partnered up with French supermarket chain Carrefour and Casino Guichard Perrachon SA in the country.
Picard’s express delivery service with Deliveroo will be available in more than a hundred cities in the country, read the statement.
The news comes just as rival Just Eat Takeaway.com (JET) investor Cat Rock has called on the company to divest its Grubhub subsidiary in order to improve the company’s valuation so it can “defend its position in Europe” amid Uber Eats and Deliveroo expansions.
The new Deliveroo partnership is further evidence for the company’s efforts in gaining significant market gains in a cluttered European market.
