Burberry launches rental and resale service with My Wardrobe HQ

Burberry is set to launch a clothing rental and resale scheme via a new partnership with My Wardrobe HQ, Vogue Business reported.

The luxury fashion retailer will be renting a range of its classic items, including its signature trench coat for four, seven, 10 or 14 days.

Weekly rental prices range from £41-£170 and resale prices range from £111 for accessorises and up to £750 for trench coats.

If customers wish to purchase items after the rental period is over, they have the option the buy them.

Burberry is striving to both strengthen brand loyalty among existing customers and attract new shoppers.

The retailer is also working in partnership with Smart Works charity – which provides quality interview clothing and professional coaching for unemployed women, by donating 40 per cent of each rental profits to the initiative.

“Our partnership with My Wardrobe HQ is complementary to our broader strategy to become climate positive by 2040, supporting the principles of a circular economy for luxury,” Burberry vice president of corporate responsibility said.

“This includes expanding reuse, repair, donation and recycling routes and developing new partnerships and revaluation solutions.”

The news comes as a recent VoucherCodes study revealed that 69 per cent of UK consumers are planning to use rental services for special occasions this Christmas, up from 38 per cent last year.
