TikTok owner’s Shein-like shopping app is shutdown three months after launching

TikTok owner ByteDance’s answer to Shein, Dmonstudio, has ceased operations just three months after it was launched to rival the fast-fashion giant.

Dmonstudio was at-first widely considered to be a suitable challenger to Shein, which is the most downloaded shopping app in the US.

It described itself as “an online shopping mall featuring the latest in women’s fashion apparel and fashion accessories” and said it distributed globally to over 100 countries via a large number of warehouses.

“We will continue to provide after-sale services to our users who have purchased on our website,” read the notice on the platform’s site.

The company registered its online domain in November, according to the web hosting platform GoDaddy, before advertising on Facebook.

Its marketing campaign on Instagram was launched a month later.

ByteDance never officially announced the app’s launch of Dmonstudio however a number of Chinese media outlets reported the news.

The TikTok owner declined to comment on the closure of Dmonstudio on Monday.

Shein is currently worth around $50 billion, its annual sales reached 60 billion yuan $9.4 billion in 2020 is planning on going public in New York, according to a report by Reuters, last month.
