Zara has started charging customers to return products they have purchased online.
Since the beginning of May, Zara customers have been charged £1.95 to return items, with the fee deducted from their total refund, according to The Industry.Fashion.
However, items bought in-store can still be returned free of charge, to shops in the same region.
The move will undoubtedly be watched by other fashion retailers amid surging return rates.
The news comes as Boohoo revealed last week that spiking return rates had impacted its full-year profits and customers were returning items at a higher rate than before the pandemic.
The increase in returns is likely a result of consumers buying more trend-led items.
According to returns specialist ReBound, one in three fashion items bought online are sent back. This figure is around double the rate for shop-bought goods.
