Frasers Group appoints former Nike executive to head up sports division

Frasers Group has appointed former Nike executive Ger Wright to lead its sports division, which includes Sports Direct.

The move is part of a wider management reshuffle by the group’s new chief executive Michael Murray, who took on the top role in May after spending three years as head of elevation at the group.

Wright previously spent 16 years at Nike, most recently leading merchandising at its marketplace business across EMEA.

Murray commented: “Nike is a strategic partner for us, and Ger’s appointment is a real testament to our elevation strategy.”

Frasers has also made further promotions within its senior team. The current House of Fraser boss David Epstein, who was previously head of business development at Sports Direct, has become managing director of premium and luxury.

In addition, Beckie Stanion, current chief marketing officer at Sports Direct, will step up to a group role.

Murray said Stanion had “played a crucial role in delivering our industry applauded campaigns, and will continue to transform and deliver our visions across the group.”

Murray added: “I’m now five weeks into my role as chief executive, and as part of my commitment, I’ll be bringing the right people on board, to lead Frasers Group into the future and build on our solid foundations.

“I’m incredibly excited about where we’re heading – it’s only the beginning.”
