Twitter to allow merchants display business details on profiles

Twitter has announced an expansion to its platform which would allow for merchants to display details on their profiles such as the location of their business or shop, contact info, and operational hours.

The new feature, called Location Spotlight, is available for Twitter Professional account users in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.

A user is able to find directions to the shop through their default maps provider on their smartphone when they tap on a businesses’ location.

Merchants are also now able to add a way to contact them in the profile including a phone number, a link to send a text, or an email.

The move builds upon the social media platform‘s introduction of professional profiles last year, giving users the capacity to use the About module to display information, the Shop module to display products and the Newsletter module to create newsletters through Twitter-owned Revue.

In March this year Professional profiles were made available for everyone.

Twitter has also launched a number of social commerce features which includes virtual storefronts to display items and product releases which give businesses the chance to list products at particular times and dates.
