Asos has appointed former Inditex executive Elena Martínez Ortiz as womenswear director of its Asos Design own brand.

Ortiz joins the online fashion giant from Inditex’s Stradivarius, where she has spent 18 years.

She has held the role of product director at Stradivarius since 2013, but was previously sourcing director based in Asia.

It is understood that Ortiz will take up the position at the end of the month, relocating from Barcelona to London.

In her new position, Ortiz will preside over Asos Design, the etailer’s core collection, expanding the range and availability of products.

She will report to Asos’s recently appointed chief executive José Antonio-Ramos Calamonte, also former Inditex, until his successor is named.

Ortiz will take up her new role on 30 August.
