Kingfisher’s tech lead to depart role

Kingfisher’s chief digital and technology officer JJ Van Oosten is set to depart the DIY retail giant this month, as the company starts ‘the next phase’ of its digital journey’.

Van Oosten has held his role at Kingfisher since 2020, where he has overseen the company‘s digital offering go from strength to strength.

The announcement was made by Kingfisher chief executive Thierry Garnier in a staff memo.

Van Oosten has transformed B&Q’s famous ‘diy.com’ URL from a traditional online retail platform into one of the biggest marketplaces in the UK.

It currently attracts over 3.5 million customers each week, stocking over 40,000 home improvement products.

“We launched [the marketplace] in March and it is going pretty damn good to be honest,” he told Charged in August.

“And that’s not me marking my own homework here. Customers are trusting what they’re finding, and they’re expecting us to provide them with trusted merchants and products as well,”
