MatchesFashion poaches Asos tech boss

MatchesFashion has poached Asos head of technology Christopher Hart, who has joined the etailer this week as director of technology and customer experience.

Hart has been with Asos for seven years and previously worked in Tesco’s tech team.

It is the second time MatchesFashion CEO Nick Beighton, the former Asos boss, has raided his former employer for talent in the last month.

He brought on board Asos global creative boss John Mooney as executive creative director in February.

MatchesFashion’s owners, private equity firm Apax Partners, invested £60m into the business earlier this year to help fuel its turnaround.

The funding is split into £40 million of fresh equity and £20 million of new debt. Apax bought a majority stake in the online fashion retailer in 2017 in a deal valued at $1bn.

Meanwhile, Asos has hired ex-Made.com chief customer officer Dan Elton to take the newly-created position of senior customer director.

Elton, who left Made.com when it collapsed in November 2022, is currently a board advisor at retail tech startup Slip.

He was previously senior industry head for fashion and sport at Google, and has held senior roles at Argos and Tesco in the past.
