Asda reintroduces personalised First Scan bonus

Supermarket chain Asda is bringing back its First Scan Bonus initiative this month for first-time users of its Asda Rewards loyalty programme.

The decision follows the success of the scheme in February, the company said, when over £2 million was earned by customers. The latest initiative began on Wednesday 12 April running until Wednesday 3 May, and will be available both in-store and online with no minimum spend required.

Under the initiative, after downloading Asda Rewards and signing up for an account, customers scanning the app for the first time receive £5 in their ‘Cashpot’. Customers who have previously downloaded the app, but are yet to scan for the first time, will also receive the bonus.

Asda has been increasingly embracing technology in its operations, including the introduction of Wagestream flexible pay earlier this month and has been bolstering its online offer.

Asda Rewards provides personalised offers to customers and since Asda Rewards launched last August, it has continually assessed how customers shop with the aim of providing a more tailored experience.

At the start of this month, Asda increased the number of personalised missions that users will receive, meaning customers “will see an evolution of their offers” within the app over time, based on how they use it, the supermarket group said.

Asda added that customers can also expect new offers and highlighted products every week, with  aligned with events such as the upcoming King’s Coronation and half-term holidays, to help grow their Cashpot. This can be created with as little as £1 to a maximum voucher sum of £100.
