JD Sports has partnered up with trainer reselling platform Sole Responsibility, which buys subprime branded trainers and clothing destined for disposal, Drapers reported.
Sole Responsibility will stock the sports retailer’s end of the line and slightly damaged stock on ecommerce site Ebay, including popular brands such as Adidas, Timberland, Nike and Converse.
The company describes itself as a “circular economy business” and offers a sustainable solution for its end of line and returned trainers.
“More and more retailers are realising the benefits of working with a sustainability partner like us in this way,” Sole Responsibility founder Simon Payne said.
“We currently have an official affiliation with JD Sports helping to provide a sustainable solution for its second or returned stock that could potentially end up in landfill without our solution.

“We are committed to working with the fashion and retail industry over the coming years and making eco-aware purchasing become a priority for consumers. We want people to know that there is a different way to shop.”
Sole Responsibility promises that all stock sourced from UK retailers is 100 per cent genuine however the majority of the stock is sold as ‘new with defects’ which are fully explained in the listing.
The news comes after JD performed strongly during the latest lockdown as the country ditched shirts and ties for tracksuits and hoodies.
The sportswear giant surprised the stock market with a trading update that said annual profits would reach over £400 million after Christmas, beating analysts predictions of £295 million.
